Today I’m gonna share with you an easy way to get an incredible amount of local search traffic. So what I mean by this is, when somebody is searching things like “financial advisor Annapolis” or “financial advisor near me,” whatever location that you’re in, how do you make your advisory business rise to the top? I’m Samantha Russell from Twenty Over Ten and today I have six ways for you to easily optimize your Google My Business listing, which is going to propel you to the top of local search engine rankings. So let’s dive right in. [Intro music] Okay so again, we’re talking all about something called Google My Business, and Google My Business is a free tool that Google makes available to any business owner at all.
So the very first thing you want to do is claim and optimize your listing.
You can go to Google and search “Google My Business” and that will come up and you can claim your business listing. Anybody who has a location on Google Maps can claim their Google My Business listing. So do that, number one. Number two, what you want to do is go in and update your hours of operation.
Make sure they’re accurate, make sure any days that your business is closed for holidays or special events is also marked off appropriately. The third thing you want to do is add six or more photos. Now this is crucial because a lot of research has been done that shows that businesses that have six or more photos ranked higher than those that don’t when it comes to the Google My Business listing. So what kind of photos can you use? You can put pictures of your team, you can upload your logo, you can have pictures of the outside of your office or the inside.
The sky is really the limit, you just need to have six or more photos there. Okay, the fourth thing you need to do is get Google reviews. Now I know this has been a contested hot topic in the past, and there’s a lot of controversy because many people equate a review with a testimonial, and we know that testimonials are a big no-no when it comes to financial advisors in the United States. However, a Google review is not the same thing as a testimonial.
We’ll link to it below but we have an entire blog post all about Google reviews and what you need to know as an advisor, but there’s two big takeaways.
Number one, any business that has a location on Google Maps can get a review, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it or to remove the review. Google is the publisher and they own the review. So as long as you don’t like or reply the review, as long as you don’t ask for reviews in writing to any of your clients, and as long as you don’t republish those reviews anywhere else, like on your website or social media, you will be compliant.
So again, we’ll link below to everything you need to know about Google reviews, but the more reviews you have on your Google My Business profile, the higher that you potentially could rank, because Google wants to optimize those businesses that have good reviews, right? That makes sense.
Okay, the fifth thing. You want to verify your location. So again, there’s a lot of advice on how to do that in the blog post that we will link to, but you want to actually verify your location with Google to make sure that it’s accurate.
And then the sixth thing is you want to make sure that all of what is called the “NAP” data, so that stands for name, address, and phone number, is accurate. So, NAP data is what you’re going to add to your Google My Business listing when you set it up.
So again, you’ll add your company name. If your company name is “Russell Wealth LLC,” make sure that you completely have the LLC there. So if on your website you have just “Russell Wealth,” you don’t necessarily want to add the LLC to your Google My business Profile.
And that’s because it’s confusing for the search engine to know that the two are the same. So however you have everything spelled out on your website or any other Chamber of Commerce, any other directories or listings, you want to make sure it’s the exact same on your Google My Business profile as well.
If you spell out suite s-u-i-t-e on your website, make sure you spell it out s-u-i-t-e on your Google My Business listing as well. So, make sure you’ve got accurate and up-to-date NAP data, name, address, phone number, and that it’s consistent across all of your listings.
