How to use SEO to Increase Website Traffic (Part 5)

Hey, I’m MJ. Welcome to our nine-part video series: 76 Proven Tactics to Drive traffic to your website. Today we are going to talk about search engine optimization, commonly known as SEO. (lively music) So you’ve finished setting up your website, but you are unsure how to drive traffic to your website. All of the keyword research and content won’t save your page if you’ve ignored SEO. SEO is one of the best ways to get consistent traffic to direct you to your side.

As long as you are high on google you will be able to generate organic traffic on your site. That sounds great, but nothing in life comes for free or without some work. In order to benefit from SEO, you need to write about a few topics that people search for in google but to fully benefit from it, you also have to make sure your side is optimized for search engines and many other things.

Here are some things you can do right now to use SEO to drive traffic to your website. Number 29 on our list, pay attention to the SEO health of your website.

SEO is pretty simple. Most of the benefits of following best practices to make sure your website is healthy, has everything to do with what Google expects to see. Setting these things up can make a world of difference the amount of traffic on your site. Here are the SEO basics you will need. An SEO-friendly CMS like WordPress.

A responsive design and good mobile usability. A valid SSL certificate. A fast and reliable web host. Links from relevant pages.

And content that people actually want to read.

Obviously there can be more SEO elements where the technical health of the website is one of them, But that should lay the foundation for you. Number 30, build backlinks to your website. Links from authority and relevant pages are like voices of trust for your side. The types of links you can build vary depending on your niche.

Number 31, have your content displayed in snippets.

Since the beginning, Google has always had more information added to search results to improve user experience. One feature is the featured snippets. Featured snippets are content boxes which appear directly below the search field on Google. They are meant to give the user a quick response to enter your search query without having to click on the website to get the answer. Snippets are a great way to drive traffic to your site, especially if you already have some pre-existing ranking content.

Here is a quick summary of how you get on Optimize featured snippets. Answer the keywords of the target question. Be aware of the type of snippet, paragraph, List, table, et cetera. Keep paragraphs and sentences short. Answer the question directly.

Structure your content logically with subheadings and use tables to illustrate that.

Include the question in the answer. And add a summary to the beginning and the end of the content. Number 32, use analytics to find below-average performing pages and vice versa. If you are familiar with Google Analytics, open the dashboard and go to behavior, and then content pages, and then landing pages, and click on the Sessions column to sort from bottom to top.

Then you get something like this. Now you will be able to see the pages that get the least amount of traffic. From here you can see if something is missing from the best performing sites you have. Try to improve these underperforming sites so that every page on your page brings in traffic. Another tool for collecting more insightful data would be the Google Search Console, especially the performance tab.

Of course, you can also do the opposite. Filter Analytics and the Search Console to show your top performing pages and see if you can make it any better. Before we move on to the next tip, make sure you are looking at clean data in your google analytics and filter out the referrer spam. While you are in Google Analytics, you should also pay attention to tactic number 33. Optimize your best traffic sources in Analytics, and go to acquisition, and then to all traffic, and then source / medium.

Now you can see where your traffic is coming from. In case you are unsure, the source is a place where the users are before they see your content, like a search engine or another website, and the medium describes how users came to your content. From here, you should have a few questions over your traffic sources. Which source is the most traffic coming from? Which one sends the highest converting traffic?

And which one sends the most engaged traffic? From there, try to find out why these sources are effective, and then try to replicate them.

And it’s not just your source of traffic that you should think about. Number 34, steal your competitors’ traffic sources. Sometimes the best way to get more traffic is to see what is already working and then do that.

One of the quickest ways to do this is stealing your competitors’ traffic. If you feel bad about stealing from your competitors let’s just call it reverse engineering instead.

Now you need to get yourself an SEO tool to do the job. Here are two quick ways to spy on your competitors. Method number one, SimilarWeb.

Go to SimilarWeb and paste your competitor’s URL into the search box. Scroll down to the References section to see exactly where they are getting their traffic from. Method number 2, Ahrefs. Go to the Ahrefs backlink checker, enter your competitor’s domain and click Check backlinks. Now you will be able to see the top 100 backlinks and how much estimated traffic send them to your competitor.

Armed with knowledge what works for your competition, you can go out there and try to replicate it. Take some of the tactics from this series and apply it to your side. You will be well on your way to getting more traffic. Try them out, see what effect they have on your side, and if it doesn’t work, try another one. And if it works, double it up and do more.
